Head of Finance and Operations
The Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation (DLTLF) is seeking to appoint a Head of Finance and Operations to join its team in Cape Town. Founded in 2011 by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the DLTLF strives to preserve the legacy of the Tutus, while taking their example into the future, by growing and facilitating powerful and courageous voices of uncompromised bravery in the world. At the heart of our work is a mission to deepen societal healing from the wounds of injustice, inequality, discrimination, and oppression.
The Head of Finance and Operations will play a crucial role in the organisation’s leadership.
Key responsibilities will include:
Provide organisational leadership as part of the Executive Committee
Lead, mentor, and manage the Finance and Operations team
Financial management
Planning, budgeting and reporting
Fundraising support
Management of internal controls
Risk management and compliance
Governance support
Operational systems innovation and management (Facilities, IT, HR etc)
Management of Desmond and Leah Tutu House
Management of income generation initiatives such as merchandising and venue hire
The incumbent will be a strong and entrepreneurial leader, who is able to identify and seize opportunities, build team buy-in for financial processes, and manage the key risks of the organisation proactively.
The Foundation is in the process of entering a growth phase and will need someone who can lead the financial and operational aspects of the organisation at a turning point in its history and impact.
The ideal candidate will have:
At least an undergraduate degree in Business, Accounting or a similar field. A postgraduate or CA qualification would be advantageous;
At least 5 years’ experience in senior finance and operations leadership;
Strong knowledge of accounting standards, compliance frameworks, and risk management;
Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
Strategic thinker with a passion for mission-driven impact.
An ability to work well with a diverse team;
A commitment to the values of Archbishop Desmond, and Mrs Leah, Tutu.
